Find out candace’s skincare must-haves!
Welcome to Facing Forty’s Celebrity Skincare Series!
I created this series to bridge the beauty advice gap that real forty-something women seek from the makeup pros who consistently work with these celebrity women.
Meet Nicole Elle King, a celebrity make-up artist and founder of GetUplifted. One of Nicole’s clients is the ageless Candace Cameron Bure, whom we all grew up watching on Full House, and now your kids watch her on Fuller House. Can you believe that DJ Tanner is 44 years old? Candace looks amazing! Nicole breaks down the skincare and foundation products she used on Candace’s cover shoot with Good Housekeeping magazine. Get ready! You are about to learn all of Candace’s skincare secrets and Nicole’s tricks for flawless, natural-looking skin.
it’s all about the skin
Candace is a patient of renowned celebrity dermatologist Dr. Harold Lancer and has been a devotee of his Lancer Skincare products for the past 11 years. Such a super fan, Candace is now a Lancer Skincare Brand Ambassador and regularly appears on QVC to share her love of his products. Did I mention that Candace doesn’t wear any face makeup when she goes on-air with QVC? Not even a smidge of powder. That’s a brave woman! It also goes to show you how much Lancer Skincare has worked for her over the years that she can confidently appear on live TV without foundation or concealer! Way to go, Candace!
Like me, Nicole believes that you should spend as much time prepping the skin for makeup as you would applying makeup. Through working with Candace, Nicole has become a Lancer Skincare convert. According to Nicole, “Candace’s skin looks absolutely radiant and glowing with only the skincare products. Why would I want to cover her face with a full coverage foundation?”
Dr. Lancer’s The Method: Nourish Normal-Combination Skin - This moisturizer is packed with hyaluronic acid and peptides. Hmm. Sounds familiar. I did a post on the benefits of hyaluronic acid and peptides. Click here to read more about it.
Dr. Lancer’s Omega Hydrating Oil - On days when Candace’s skin needs a little bit more hydration, Nicole gently presses a few drops of oil into her skin. “I love that the oil absorbs quickly into the skin and doesn’t sit on top of the makeup,” says Nicole.
Dr. Lancer’s Eye Contour Lifting Cream With Diamond Powder - According to Nicole, “this eye cream is a miracle-worker. It’s super hydrating, minimizes fine lines, depuffs, and brightens the under-eye area.”
Dr. Lancer’s Dani Glowing Skin Perfector - The Glowing Skin Perfector is the one product Candace can’t live without and uses every day. Don’t believe me? Click here to watch Candace rave about it on QVC. Says Nicole, “Calling this product a primer doesn’t do it justice. Part skincare, part glowy goodness, definite blurring magician. The one product to use on a no-makeup day. You’ll look youthful and glowing at school drop off or the grocery store.”
La Mer The Lip Balm - “I prep all my clients with this lip balm, even my male grooming clients. This lip balm is expensive but worth it! I love that it provides total hydration without feeling too heavy,” says Nicole.
Sheer perfection
“My approach to applying foundation is definitely less is more,” says Nicole. Nicole used the Chanel Ultra Le Teint Velvet on Candace. “It’s a sheer foundation, but also buildable to provide extra coverage where needed. I love the velvety finish because it eliminates shine without making the skin look too matte or cakey.”
Nicole shares her pro tip for achieving a flawless face. “It’s not about how much foundation you use, but the tools you use to apply it.” Per Nicole, “Typically, I use three different tools to apply foundation and concealer. First, I use a foundation brush to dot foundation on the areas I want to cover. Next, I use a small fluffy brush to buff out the foundation, resulting in an airbrushed finish. Once I am happy with the coverage, then I take a damp sponge like the Real Techniques Blender Sponge and press the product into the skin.” Nicole shares, “pressing the product into the skin is the trick to making your foundation melt into your skin and not sit on top of it.”
contour tricks
Candace loves a soft contoured look. “I achieve this look first with foundation, then add a powder bronzer,” according to Nicole. “On a mixing palette, I combine a few drops of the Chanel foundation in shades 30 and 40. I apply that to the center of Candace’s face to brighten. Then I mix shades 50 and 60 and apply it to the outer perimeter of her face and across her cheekbones.” Applying two shades of foundation (one to highlight and one to contour) is a fast and easy contour trick to use in everyday life,” says Nicole.
“Since we are working on a photoshoot and the lights are very bright, I intensified her normal contour,” explains Nicole. “I applied Makeup Forever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation in shade Y505 (Cognac) using the brand’s Double-Ended Sculpted Brush. Buff out the contour using the fluffy part of the brush,” says Nicole. “I set the contour using the NARS Pressed Powder in Heat.”
Conceal, not erase
Nicole prefers to use concealers for the under-eye area that have a creamy consistency and reflect light. On Candace, she used a combination of NARS Radiant Concealers in Custard and Ginger to cover any darkness. Then she used the Givenchy Teint Couture Eyewear in shades 16 and 20 to brighten up the under-eye. Nicole mixed the concealers on a mixing palette and then tapped the concealer over Candace’s under-eye with her ring finger. Do you want to know Nicole’s trick for keeping Candace’s undereyes creaseless throughout the day? “There is no magic trick,” says Nicole. “If Candace’s undereyes are creasing from smiling and laughing all day, I simply remove the concealer and reapply it. That’s the perk of having your makeup artist on set.”
last Steps
Nicole mists Candace’s skin with the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist to give the skin added moisture and radiance. Nicole used Boscia Clear Complexion Blotting Linens to reduce shine. Then she applied the NARS Soft Velvet Loose Powder in Beach sparingly with a brush to Candace’s t-zone. “I love this powder because it is super fine and creates a blurred effect when dusted onto the skin. I find it doesn’t settle into the skin and helps to set and remove shine without weighing the makeup down,” raves Nicole.
